The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) on behalf of the City of Johannesburg Transport department has commenced with the implementation of a public transport facility and the construction will be completed by 2019.
The intention is to construct a dense but easy to use facility that is aesthetically pleasing, functional, sustainable and durable. Further to this the facility will reduce commuters travel time,due to the centrality of its location and most importantly improve safety for commuters.
This transport facility will include the following features;
- 37 Holding Bays
- 10 Wash Bays
- Private Car Parking
- 22 Trader Stalls
- Ablution Facilities (Male, Female & Disabled)
- Public Square for traders including a sitting area
- Clock Tower
The facility will also stand out as a new innovative public transport infrastructure from a design perspective, the will b e special focus placed on a curved roof that symbolizes the organic movement of the public transport industry. The structural roof will provide cover from natural elements such as the sun and rain for commuters and other users of the facility.
The traders’ stalls are designed to accommodate informal traders selling of wet and dry goods respectively. The integration between the square and stalls will be via paved and covered walkways creating a seamless unobstructed pedestrian flow. Access from the surrounding areas will be possible on clearly marked crossings. City of Johannesburg, MMC for Development Planning Rueben Masango said, the Driezik public transport facility will promote economic growth, promote safety and ease of access to public transport in Orange Farm and surrounding neighbourhoods.
