Watt Interchange Bridge Demolition

As part of the City of Joburg’s Rea Vaya BRT project along the Louis Botha Development Corridor, the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) is constructing the Watt Interchange in Wynberg.

Part of the works includes demolition of the existing bridge and the interchange at Watt Street. This will take place from Monday, 6 August 2018. The demolition process is expected to take between 10 and 12 days to complete.

The demolition process will have no impact on motorists however business and public in close proximity of the bridge may feel the vibrations and hear the noise from the machines breaking the concrete.

The demolition will be done during working hours to avoid disruptions caused by the vibrations to residents that live close to the site, says JDA CEO Christo Botes.

Watt Interchange forms part of the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) System, Phase 1C which includes the Section 8 trunk route from Sandton to Alexandra along Rivonia and Katherine Drives, and the Section 15 trunk route from Parktown in Johannesburg to Alexandra along Louis Botha Avenue.

The traffic and pedestrian management plans remain in place and these will to ensure the safety of the public and motorists.

Detailed traffic and pedestrian management plans can be downloaded on www.jda.org.za, updates can be found on Facebook (Johannesburg Development Agency).
